The Machining Department Manager will lead a team of supervisors and leads to accomplish monthly production quotas in a CNC/Manual machining environment. This department’s core activities include but are not limited to the milling, turning, grinding, drilling, deburring, and finishing of component parts for tools designed for use in the commercial, defense, and aerospace industries. This role will serve to set priorities by providing consistent purpose, direction, and motivation to the team in support of the overall site objectives. An individual suitable for this role is able to exhibit the company values, set high standards for themselves and others, as well as drive operational rigor across the department. We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated leader to help us build a modern machining operation that adopts lean methodologies and other best practices from industry. Be the primary champion for daily lean management within the department to include holding daily standup meetings, collecting action items, and driving action to the points of friction each day Drives management processes that equip and empower supervisors to win the day while the department manager develops, plans, and drives CI initiatives Reviews daily shift reports for trends and improvement opportunities and assigns out action items accordingly Monitor demand picture in tandem with production planning to ensure crew levels and equipment can support incoming sales velocity Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Business Development to ensure alignment of product specifications and delivery timelines Maintain reports and scorecards to monitor department progress and participate in business reviews as needed Support new product introductions and prototype builds Drive timely completion of orders throughout the shop to support service level objectives Develop and track production metrics to include production variances for labor and material costs to identify where the team needs to launch improvement projects Drive lean manufacturing improvements across the machine shop areas to include milling, turning, grinding, deburring, and others Enforce quality standards and ensure compliance with ISO/AS9100 and other relevant certifications Work closely with the Quality department to resolve issues and implement preventive measures Provide quality performance feedback in line with the established performance management program. Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety policies Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions Lead and develop supervisors and leads to steward their growth and help build a bench of talent within the organization
