About The Position

The Machine Shop Machine Operator manufactures machined products, focusing on machine operation, machine set-up, equipment maintenance, process monitoring, productivity, quality, continuous improvement and safety. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Primary function to operate all assigned production equipment including startup, shutdown, light set-up, materials handling, and feeding of production for machines including manual and/or computer controlled turning and machining centers such as Burgmaster, CNC vertical mills, and lathes, Swiss lathes, manual machining equipment, auxiliary support systems, new and specialty equipment. Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances. Operate machining equipment to produce products by cutting materials including finishing, grinding, polishing, sharpening, drilling, beveling and create relief. Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications. Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area. Perform light maintenance functions including change machine filters, check and grease machine slides, check and change coolant, scrap removal between materials changes. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to department lead, supervisor and/or manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data using basic statistical tools such averages, range and graphs.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Basic Quality Standards and Concepts literacy
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer at least one year of related experience.
  • Other certifications, training or requirements as may arise for this position as communicated by management.
  • Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time or move or position objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
  • May be required to repetitively move or position materials, tools, equipment and objects above and below shoulder level, and from side to side of body.
  • May be required to communicate, discern, convey, or exchange information with other teammates.
  • Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment at all times during work hours as required by company safety rules.
