The Machine Shop Machine Operator manufactures machined products, focusing on machine operation, machine set-up, equipment maintenance, process monitoring, productivity, quality, continuous improvement and safety. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Primary function to operate all assigned production equipment including startup, shutdown, light set-up, materials handling, and feeding of production for machines including manual and/or computer controlled turning and machining centers such as Burgmaster, CNC vertical mills, and lathes, Swiss lathes, manual machining equipment, auxiliary support systems, new and specialty equipment. Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances. Operate machining equipment to produce products by cutting materials including finishing, grinding, polishing, sharpening, drilling, beveling and create relief. Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications. Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area. Perform light maintenance functions including change machine filters, check and grease machine slides, check and change coolant, scrap removal between materials changes. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to department lead, supervisor and/or manager.
