About The Position

We are looking for a talented Machine Safety Engineer - Manufacturing to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins location York, SC. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Safety Leadership: Ensure all manufacturing processes meet rigorous safety requirements, protecting employees and maintaining compliance. Goal Achievement: Drive projects that align with and deliver on manufacturing, business, and product performance goals. Process Optimization: Apply advanced manufacturing principles to improve equipment efficiency, reliability, and overall process effectiveness. Continuous Improvement: Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other tools to reduce waste, enhance quality, and streamline operations. Standards Development: Lead the creation and implementation of manufacturing standards and working methods consistent with Cummins' global practices. Stakeholder Influence: Communicate effectively and build trust with external stakeholders, business leaders, and cross functional teams to secure alignment. Resource Coordination: Collaborate with internal and external partners to maximize project outcomes and deliver cost effective solutions. Coaching & Relationships: Maintain strong relationships and coach key stakeholders, fostering growth, accountability, and a culture of excellence.

Requirements

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
  • This Machine Safety Engineer - Manufacturing role will focus on machine Safety to reduce incident rates.
  • Design and execute engineered shop floor solutions to improve functional safety, machine safeguarding and lifting device solutions at our diverse manufacturing workstations.
  • Develop engineered shopfloor solutions to eliminate hand pinch points and improve underhook safety, creating standards that can be benchmarked and implemented across all North American facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree (4‑year), preferably in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with a minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of industrial safety standards (OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, ISO/EU preferred)
  • Travel requirements are estimated at 25%, on an as‑needed basis.
  • Strong AutoCad experience in any of these tools: AutoCad, Solidworks or Pro-E required to create, review, and improve engineering drawings

Nice To Haves

  • CMSE (Certified Machinery Safety Expert) or equivalent certification is a plus.

  • Process Documentation & Standardization: Produce clear, sequenced procedures that ensure continuity, compliance, and consistency across all stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving: Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, identify root causes, and implement robust solutions to reduce waste and improve quality.
  • Ergonomics & Workstation Design: Create safe, ergonomic, and efficient workstations that balance cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
