About The Position

The position involves tending to machine tools, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces according to specifications on a production basis. The role requires manual handling of work pieces, operating machinery, inspecting finished products, and ensuring quality standards are met. The operator must also adhere to environmental policies and communicate any issues to management.

Requirements

  • High School/GED Diploma required.
  • No prior experience or training required, but previous manufacturing experience is beneficial.

  • Ability to comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Lift work piece manually or using hoist and secure work piece in fixture or load automatic feeding device.
  • Start machine, engage feed, and observe operation.
  • Inspect and gauge machined work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Move machine controls and guides to adjust machine.
  • Replace worn machine accessories such as cutting tools or brushes.
  • Add coolant to machine reservoir and turn valve to start flow of coolant.
  • File, sand, or shape machined parts.
  • Clean machined parts.
  • Tend machines and equipment other than machine tools.
  • Ensure quality products are produced and have the authority to stop production to correct quality problems.
  • Follow environmental policies and procedures and communicate concerns and issues to management.
