About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating powered industrial equipment (sit-down/stand-up forklifts, loaders) to move heavy, bulky materials, while also setting up and operating machinery (saws, routers, grinders, drills) to process metal or lumber to specifications. This role includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory via scans, and ensuring a safe, clean work environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a machine operator or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience operating a Forklift in a production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot machine issues efficiently.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training or certification in machine operation preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to climb onto and off a forklift, requiring agility and balance.
  • Operators may need to stand and walk for extended periods, particularly when loading/ monitoring machines.
  • Must be able to work outside in heat and other weather.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Construction Industry Helpful - ability to reada tape measure/understanding of basic angles and measurements.
  • At least 2 years of related forklift experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Forklift Operation: Operate heavy-duty forklifts (18,000lb+ capacity frequently required in steel) to move structural steel, scrap metal, or timber. Load and unload flatbed trailers and containers.
  • Machine Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate metal roll former machinery and custom trim machines to cut and shape materials to specifications.
  • Material Handling: Transport raw materials to workstations and transfer finished products to staging areas.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict OSHA regulations and company safety procedures, including wearing PPE (safety boots, safety gloves)
  • Maintenance & Quality Control: Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and machines. Inspect finished parts/lumber for accuracy.
  • Documentation: Maintain inventory records, cut sheets, daily activity logs, and any required production documentation.
