What We Offer You: Starting pay is $24.74 per hour $1.00 shift differential Overtime opportunities available Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, AD&D, life insurance, and paid short‑term disability Specialty programs such as pet insurance , diabetes & hypertension programs, online workouts, and more HSA available after 30 days 401(k) automatic enrollment with a 3 percent match Paid time off and 10 paid holidays Company‑paid custom earplugs Safety glasses allowance Steel‑toed boots NOT required Training, classes, and tuition reimbursement Strong focus on safety through our Drive to Zero Injuries initiative Our Fort Madison location has partnered with the Department of Energy to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon output You’ll Love It Here If You Enjoy: Troubleshooting equipment and tooling Performing preventative maintenance Repairing or replacing worn parts What You’ll Do: Check coil lot numbers, remove mill tickets, and cut bands or damaged wraps as needed Inspect coils for defects such as welds, laminations, or damaged edges; notify mechanic/supervisor of excessive defects Place coils on the pay‑off spindle, thread the strip, and align it on the feed table Operate the feed‑in and unwinding unit, maintaining continuous strip feeding Make non‑mechanical running adjustments (centering strip, tension adjustments) Tend the splice unit and complete splicing before the accumulator empties Observe strip during production for defects that could affect coating or material usage Production Line Support Work closely with the coil‑coating production mechanic Assist with threading the line, equipment start‑ups, shut‑downs, and clearing jams Lubricate equipment and service the air tech lubricator Monitor the pinhole detector and report malfunctions Coating & Quality Control Assist with changing coating applicator and pickup rolls Help wash coater rolls Keep simple production records Monitor the strip cooling tank, adjust water flow, and inspect coated materials for defects Maintain waxer equipment and adjust for correct wax application Coil Finishing Remove defective wraps from completed coils Cut samples for required quality checks and maintain retains (first pass does not require retain) Apply tape, mark identification, complete paperwork, and attach a seven-part ticket Notify mechanic/supervisor of any quality defects identified during testing Line Start‑Up & Speed Control Ensure area is clear before starting equipment Use console controls to start the line, bring it to speed, and maintain strip tension Cut strip to achieve coil size specifications Remove finished coils from the rewind mandrel to the coil carrier

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to operate and maintain Silgan can‑making lines, including performing and documenting quality checks

Responsibilities

  • Check coil lot numbers, remove mill tickets, and cut bands or damaged wraps as needed
