About The Position

The position involves setting up, laying out, and operating various CNC lathes and/or mills. The operator will read blueprints or job orders for product specifications and tool instructions, select and secure tools in tool holders, and position work pieces in holding devices. The operator will also move controls to position tools and work pieces in relation to each other, setting specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Responsibilities include performing 1st piece inspections, observing machine operations, and verifying conformity of machined work pieces to specifications. The role requires the ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area. The operator will discuss errors in diagrams or production orders with supervisors or engineers to clarify assembly problems.

Requirements

• Relevant certification or experience in a similar role/function
• GED or High School Diploma
• Ability to read blueprints and precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers

Responsibilities

• Setup, layout and operate various CNC lathes and/or mills
• Read blueprints or job orders for product specifications and tool instructions
• Select, position, and secure tool in tool holder
• Position and secure work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers or fixtures
• Move controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut
• Perform 1st piece inspection to check conformity to blueprints and BOMs
• Observe operation of machine and verify conformity of machined work piece to specifications
• Perform assembly-type functions using hand or power tools
• Set up and operate 3 and 5 axis CNC milling centers and CNC lathes
• Adjust, trim and fit parts to close tolerances
• Follow visual aids to ensure work is correct
• Make up cartons, print labels, insert protective packing material, seal finishing product
• Meet efficiency rates and perform quality checks
• Report defective materials or questionable conditions
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
• Rotate job assignments within various work cells
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervision
• Work within all safety guidelines and wear all required PPE
