The position involves setting up, laying out, and operating various CNC lathes and/or mills. The operator will read blueprints or job orders for product specifications and tool instructions, select and secure tools in tool holders, and position work pieces in holding devices. The operator will also move controls to position tools and work pieces in relation to each other, setting specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Responsibilities include performing 1st piece inspections, observing machine operations, and verifying conformity of machined work pieces to specifications. The role requires the ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area. The operator will discuss errors in diagrams or production orders with supervisors or engineers to clarify assembly problems.
