About the position
The position involves operating various CNC lathes and/or mills during the 2nd shift from Monday to Thursday, 2:15 PM to 12:45 AM, with a pay rate of $27.14 per hour plus a $0.50 shift premium. The role requires reading blueprints or job orders for product specifications and tool instructions, selecting and securing tools in tool holders, and positioning work pieces in holding devices or fixtures. Operators will also need to move controls to position tools and work pieces, set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and perform first piece inspections to ensure conformity to specifications. The job demands the ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area and discussing any errors in diagrams or production orders with supervisors or engineers.
Responsibilities
- Setup, layout and operate various CNC lathes and/or mills
- Read blueprint or job order for product specifications and tool instructions
- Select, position, and secure tool in tool holder
- Position and secure work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers or fixtures
- Move controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut
- Perform 1st piece inspection (check first piece/pieces per blueprints and BOMs)
- Observe operation of machine and verify conformity of machined work piece to specifications
- Keep work area clean and orderly
- Discuss errors in diagrams or production order with supervisor or engineer to clarify assembly problems

- Relevant certification or experience in a similar role/function
- GED or high school diploma
