About The Position

The Machine Operator is an Individual Contributor responsible for the setup and operation of various pieces of equipment, including a straightener to straighten and square pole shafts, cutting equipment/machinery to ensure poles meet final length and diameter, press brake to form product and material handling equipment. This position operates on the 2nd Shift (4:00 pm - 2:30 am; M-Th) with a starting wage of $21.82/hr plus a $1 shift differential.

Requirements

  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings
  • The ability to become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of an overhead crane
  • The ability to read a tape measure
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with most frequent lift up to 20 pounds
  • High awareness for safety at all times
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facility
  • Read blueprints and specifications
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of previous experience in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • One (1) year of previous experience with overhead crane operations
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for machine set up, including setting rollers to specified lengths, and verifying dimensions from shop drawings
  • Observe operation and periodically verify conformance of machined work to process sheet, specifications and blueprint data
  • Maintain the cleanliness of work area including all equipment and machinery
  • Use overhead crane to load/unload machinery
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non-temperature controlled environment and outdoors
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned
