About The Position

As a Closing Stitcher you will perform many stitching operations that may be done exclusively or on a rotational basis. You will perform a variety of relatively complex hand stitching patterns using a stitching machine and hand-held tools that contribute to completing the product. You work in a team environment always focusing on safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Requirements

  • Able to read, understand and comprehend written or oral instruction and the ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Hand and eye coordination along with depth perception (layered materials), good peripheral vision, ability to see incoming and/or outgoing workstations and precision work (clear vision as close as 11 inches for tasks).
  • Use of personal protective equipment is required.
  • Manual dexterity skills (eye, hand, and feet coordination).
  • Able to perform repetitive upper extremity motions and repetitive forceful grip/pinch requiring both hands, frequent reaching, good range of motion of fingers, hands, wrists, and elbows.
  • Must stand and balance using foot pedals requiring both feet throughout an 8-hour shift, moving from role to role or sedentary standing.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced production line environment (building 600 pair of shoes in an 8-hour shift) while completing a variety of sewing/stitching and hand-finishing processes safely with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Able to lift light to moderate amounts of weight.

Responsibilities

  • Execute tasks to the materials and parts of the shoe utilizing various tools and machinery, and adherence to standard work cycles.
  • Cross train and rotate to various jobs and duties to achieve departmental and business goals.
  • Make suggestions to improve the process and display motivation and initiative to improve skills and job knowledge.
  • Support NB quality expectations/standards and take ownership for meeting them.
  • Ensure work quality before passing onto customers.
  • Follow NB policies and demonstrate responsibility for attendance, safety requirements, PPE and reporting of accidents and near misses.
  • Read spec sheets to verify threads and bobbins with the ability to identify sizes on the part.
  • Learn and adhere to start up and shutdown procedures (TPM) and make simple machine/mechanical adjustments to their workstation.
