About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for all activities associated with safely operating production machines including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations to meet customer demand. This position requires a strong attention to detail to prevent poor quality products from reaching customers and to maximize equipment utilization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions related to quality, safety, and job packets.
  • Ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in the packaging industry, particularly in paper, plastics, or converting.
  • 6 months' experience in some type of manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times and comply with Pratt Industries Safety rules and operating procedures.
  • Participate in the Plant Safety Committee.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) and quality procedures.
  • Stop bad quality from leaving the facility and catch it on the front end of manufacturing.
  • Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Improve setup times and reduce downtime daily.
  • Identify and address mechanical concerns and report to supervisors.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of work areas and common areas.
  • Learn and understand machine capability and drive efficiencies.
  • Train and assist Assistant Machine Operators and other staff.
  • Complete necessary reports accurately and timely.
  • Turn in maintenance work order requests for needed repairs.
  • Switch duties with co-workers as necessary.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to production schedules and report unusual scheduling issues.
  • Be available for overtime and work on holidays as needed.
