About The Position

The Machine Operator 2 - SMT Operator is responsible for setting up and operating SMT machines, inspecting the products produced to IPC-A-610 & J-STD-001 Class 3 standards, and following all process documentation. The operator must be able to diagnose defects or problems when they arise. Key tasks include maintaining and aligning solder paste stencils, applying solder paste for consistent screen prints, replenishing SMT components, verifying component positioning, and ensuring accurate process documentation. The operator will also monitor floor stock inventory, follow preventative maintenance schedules, and work with engineers to set up and run NPI products. Hand soldering under a scope is required for touch-ups and product reviews, along with performing X-Ray inspections and rework as necessary. Training other employees may also be part of the role.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • One year of similar manufacturing experience.
  • Related experience in setup, operation, and troubleshooting of surface mount technology and microscope soldering.
  • Experience in programming of SMT equipment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to pass J-STD & IPC-610 Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in reading blueprints.
  • Experience with hand tools, special fasteners, soldering iron, and measuring devices.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate SMT machines and inspect products to IPC-A-610 & J-STD-001 Class 3 standards.
  • Maintain and align solder paste stencils and apply solder paste for consistent screen prints.
  • Replenish and control SMT components in a pick and place machine, verifying component positioning, values, and polarity.
  • Fill in process documentation accurately.
  • Follow process/program documentation for lead or lead-free solder assemblies.
  • Review routings against prints for consistency.
  • Monitor floor stock inventory and inform Supervisor or Lead of low or expired materials.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and identify when further maintenance is needed.
  • Learn machine part parameters and programs for optimization of machine time usage.
  • Work with engineers and technicians on NPI products.
  • Perform hand soldering under a scope for touch-ups and product reviews.
  • Conduct X-Ray inspections to ensure product quality.
  • Perform rework using the Air-Vac rework machine.
  • Train other employees and assist in orientation of new employees.
