About The Position

Kennametal Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform predictive and preventive maintenance analysis to enhance equipment uptime and reduce costs. The technician will be responsible for a variety of specialized technical tasks to support operations, including preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, evaluating equipment improvements, and troubleshooting equipment problems. The position requires working with a moderate degree of supervision and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience, certification as a State Journeyman in electrical or machine maintenance preferred
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, work orders, schematics, and blueprints
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and software such as SAP MII
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with plant personnel, supervisors, and managers
  • Working knowledge of analytical/scientific methods or operational processes

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLC & Ladder Logic programming
  • Knowledge of power transmission applications (gearboxes, sprockets, belts)
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized technical tasks required to support operations (e.g., IT development, research support, skilled trade)
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems (e.g., mechanical, electrical)
  • Evaluates and recommends equipment improvements to improve availability, capability and yield
  • Performs equipment failure analyses (including preventive and unscheduled maintenance)
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems
  • Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures
  • Prepare for new/relocated equipment installations by sizing, wiring, piping, ventilation, etc. according to incoming equipment requirements
  • Receive, rig, unload, transport, install, assemble, troubleshoot, and fine tune new/relocated equipment
  • Troubleshoot and perform necessary repairs on existing equipment
  • Assist engineers in identifying worn or damaged parts that may be needed to complete the repair
  • Interface with and assist outside contractors, OEM's and Technology Process Support groups, in all attempts to install new and repair or upgrade existing processes
  • Safely handle hazardous materials and hazardous wastes
  • Interface with in-plant Computerized Machine Maintenance System to show status of work and time spent on job
