Calico is seeking a Machine Learning Scientist to join a team investigating neurological aging and disease using genetics and functional genomics in humans and model systems. The mission of Calico, a research and development company founded by Alphabet, is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to enhance our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. The company aims to use this knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. With a commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and a vibrant drug-development pipeline, Calico provides an inspiring environment for catalyzing medical breakthroughs. In this role, the Machine Learning Scientist will focus on developing novel computational methods for biological sequence analysis, single-cell genomics, and statistical genetics. The ideal candidate will work closely with experimental neuroscientists to analyze large-scale genomics data, aiming to derive biological insights. The position requires a strong foundation in machine learning, algorithms, data structures, and statistics, as well as a solid understanding of molecular biology, neuroscience, and genetics. The candidate will also be responsible for communicating research findings through publications, presentations, web interfaces, and open software. The work involves predictive modeling using cutting-edge machine learning tools, with a focus on unraveling how genome sequences determine function and the adverse transformations associated with neurodegeneration. The candidate will engage in projects that include analyzing genomics sequencing experiments, ideally with experience in single-cell analysis, and applying machine learning techniques to biological problems. This position is expected to be onsite at least four days per week, fostering collaboration and interaction with team members.
