About the position

Nextdoor is looking for great engineers to join our machine learning team, which is crucial for transforming our product through personalization. The team is focused on building data-intensive products and foundational Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure that will empower our Data Scientists and ML engineers. This role involves working with large datasets, writing design documentation, and maintaining distributed systems to enhance the Nextdoor platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and integrate the next generation of Machine Learning infrastructure.
  • Empower Data Scientists and Machine Learning engineers to build ML models that make real-time decisions for the Nextdoor platform.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and data scientists to create optimal experiences on the Core ML platform, including the featurestore, real-time serving layer, and offline training system.

Requirements

  • Master / Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of industry experience applying machine learning at scale.
  • 3+ years of experience in building performant and scalable backend services.
  • Experience with Python, Kubernetes, Go, Kafka, Docker, Spark, SQL, AWS and the Unix environment.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks like Xgboost, Sklearn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Go, Java, or Scala.
  • Experience in designing, building, and debugging distributed systems.
  • Proven engineering skills with experience in writing and maintaining high-quality production code.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic startup environment.
