Caterpillar's Resource Industries, Automation and Autonomy is currently seeking a Machine Design Project Team Leader in Tucson, AZ within Wheeled Product Engineering. In this role as, you will be primarily be responsible for providing technical and program leadership in the Structural and Electrical System Design integration of Caterpillar Command systems on Haul Trucks. Specifically, you will coordinate the project delivery including the addition of new models, features, options as well as maintenance of Command for Hauling systems on to various machine models. You will manage the workload of the team, set priorities, develop program plans, and execute multiple projects to program goals. You will be the champion for process improvements within the team to improve quality, reduce cost, and increase velocity. As a member of the Autonomous Haul Trucks Machine Design team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. As an Engineering team lead, you will be a conduit of collaboration between System Design Teams, product teams, value chain and engineering organizations.

  • Provide technical leadership to design and integrate structural and electrical systems of Command for Hauling systems on Mining and Quarry Trucks.
  • Provide technical guidance and initiate ideas for design efficiency, optimization, and product commonality.
  • Manage program schedule, budget, and team priorities.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, integration requirements and validation plans.
  • Develop multi-generation product plans in collaboration with product groups and system experts.
  • Lead quality improvements, cost reduction and velocity improvement efforts across the matrix organization and value chain.
  • Mentor/coach team members.
  • Foster collaboration between product teams, value chain, suppliers, and engineering organizations.
  • Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
  • Bachelor's in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Extensive engineering experience in a new product design, analysis, or test of off-highway machines.
  • Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • A strong collaborator who is a self-starter and has demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
  • Previous project and team leadership experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
  • Haul Trucks or off highway machine design or electrical system integration experience.
  • Proven complex fast pace project management experience and ability to lead cross functional system design teams.
  • Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • A self-motivated with drive and initiative, consistently sets and pursues ambitious goals without needing external encouragement.
