Under the direction of the Director – Facilities, the Machine Design Engineer is responsible for designing specialized power machinery, designing machine fixes, and adapting machinery to the company’s specific needs. Also, competent and capable in the various disciplines within Mechanical Engineering.

  • Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards.
  • Develop detailed designs for mechanical equipment, provide control logic sequence and operational information.
  • Provide complete machine specifications to outside equipment providers.
  • Resolve design problems diagnose issues, and review and analyze specifications.
  • Perform engineering analysis on structural or mechanical designs, engineering calculations, and review engineering reports.
  • Competent in the fundamentals of FEA, strength of materials, mechanical dynamics, and other areas of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Communicate, work with, and comprehend outside contract engineers in subjects related to building design, structural engineering, and building mechanicals, and HVAC engineering.
  • Knows and understands the industry standards in automation safety, and can-do safety analysis when needed.
  • Maintains, updates, and proposes improvements to the department Machine Design Engineering Standards.
  • Clearly communicate with all areas of the company (production, maintenance, controls, IT, safety, tooling, sales, management, install, and suppliers), to create clear criteria, and sound solutions, and design equipment that helps the company grow, be safer and ultimately contribute to better profitability.
  • Identify areas of possible improvement, and propose solutions, that help the company.
  • Make clear detailed prints, including technical details, dimensions, materials, finishes, weld notes, flow diagrams, schematics, and any instructions, to convey clear information.
  • Design automated machinery, and all the parts and assemblies that make that up.
  • Consult technical handbooks, and tables, or other references to validate and confirm design principles.
  • Use Computer Aided Design and Drafting systems, both 3D and 2D, to prepare designs and drawings.
  • Create and store drawings electronically; follow department protocols to keep projects organized.
  • Organize and run a design review meeting, and discuss the criteria, progression, and proposed solutions, then be open to input and design critique, and can repeat the process until a design is complete.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related Mechanical Design degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of Mechanical Engineering machine design experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess good computer skills including CAD and be able to learn new skills as needed.
