About The Position

Machine Builder – Industrial Automation & Data Center Equipment Location: Itasca, IL Pay: $25–$32/hour (top end for experienced builders) Overtime: 15–20+ hours/week available Schedule: 1st Shift (early start; extended days + half Saturdays preferred) Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 months) Industry: Industrial Automation | OEM | Data Center Infrastructure The Opportunity Join a 100+ year-old OEM manufacturer that is experiencing massive growth due to long-term contracts supporting data center and industrial equipment projects for some of the largest technology companies in the world. Why This Role Stands Out Work on large-scale industrial machinery and data center equipment Extremely strong backlog and long-term project visibility Consistent overtime (15–20+ hours/week) for those who want it Fast-paced but organized OEM environment Opportunity to convert to full-time with a company investing heavily in growth One-round, on-site interview—decisions move fast What You’ll Be Doing Assemble industrial automated machines to engineering specifications Read and interpret detailed mechanical and assembly drawings Build and align frame assemblies, drive systems, motors, shafts, drums, rolls, and bearings Install and adjust pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, brackets, and guarding Perform operational testing, mechanical adjustments, and final verifications Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, pi-tapes) Safely move large components using forklifts and overhead cranes Support shipping and receiving of completed machines as needed Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Contribute ideas to improve build efficiency and assembly processes What We’re Looking For Required 3+ years of experience as a Machine Builder, Industrial Assembler, or Automation Technician Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical/engineering prints Hands-on experience assembling complex industrial automated machinery Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments Experience operating forklifts and rigging with cranes Willingness to work contract-to-hire and significant overtime Preferred 5+ years of machine building or OEM assembly experience Background in automation, capital equipment, or OEM manufacturing Forklift and crane certifications Trade school, technical degree, or equivalent hands-on experience Ideal Fit Reliable, detail-oriented, and safety-focused Comfortable in a high-paced, production-driven environment Flexible schedule and open to long hours and Saturdays Takes pride in building machines “right the first time” Team player who communicates well on the shop floor Physical Requirements Standing and walking for extended periods Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional lifts up to 100 lbs (with assistance) Interview Process One-round, on-site interview Fast feedback and quick start dates available Why Consider This Role This is a chance to join an OEM that has survived and grown for over a century—and is now scaling faster than ever. Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Machine Builder, Industrial Assembler, or Automation Technician
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical/engineering prints
  • Hands-on experience assembling complex industrial automated machinery
  • Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Experience operating forklifts and rigging with cranes
  • Willingness to work contract-to-hire and significant overtime

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of machine building or OEM assembly experience
  • Background in automation, capital equipment, or OEM manufacturing
  • Forklift and crane certifications
  • Trade school, technical degree, or equivalent hands-on experience
