About The Position

Positions Location: East Lansing, MI Job Description Abide by all UM Health Sparrow and MAC team member guidelines and policies. Ø Adhere to Pilates Methods Alliance’s (PMA) Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice. (Appendix A and B) Job responsibilities include teaching private Pilates equipment sessions, and small group classes. Mentoring will be provided, especially in the areas of post-rehabilitation and women's health. Ø Perform health history and fitness assessment screening at initial intake. o This includes reviewing the medical release waiver, Pilates class waiver, Pilates intake assessment form. o Document follow up and progress notes and check in on health status/injuries on an ongoing basis. Ø Recognize conditions that would preclude a client from safely participating in a Pilates exercise program. Ø Design safe and effective Pilates programs (rehab, athletics, general population, etc.) for individuals and group sessions and provide modifications as needed. Ø Perform client documentation and provide appropriate follow-up communications to clients. Ø Request additional medical documentation to confirm clients can return to exercise safely after an injury or medical condition. Enage class participants and encourage client retention. Understand client’s goals and build rapport Offer variety in class, using variations of the Pilates methods and the use of small equipment Offer specialized Pilates for common orthopedic conditions/older adult/pre and post-natal – depending on qualifications Teach Pilates classes for a range of clients, ranging from 45mins to 1 hour 30 mins Teach 1-2-1 Pilates or small groups, focusing more on individual attention and designing Pilates programs based on posture types and ability Administrative work involving, but not limited to: o Program design o Scheduling clients o Client billing o Generating personal payroll o Basic computer work (i.e., email) Ø Protect the safe handling of important client files/documents that are HIPPA protected and store them in the studio filing cabinet. Ø Provide exceptional customer service that upholds the high standards set forth by the Michigan Athletic Club and University of Michigan Health Sparrow System. Requirements

  • Current national certification in Personal Training such as: NATA, ACE, ISSA, and NSCA or equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as personal trainer or Pilates Instructor preferred.
  • Must have one year of Pilates experience.
  • High school diploma, GED or successful completion of 12 grades combined with continued enrollment in early college program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a customer service focus and work well with others.
  • Demonstrate good self-care by practicing the habits that they advocate (fitness, nutrition, balance, etc.)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
