About The Position

The Lymphedema Therapist provides specialized evaluation and treatment for patients with lymphedema and related conditions. This role supports outpatient rehabilitation programs serving cardiology, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, and the upcoming Cancer Institute. The therapist works with patients who have impairments, limitations, or disabilities affecting physical function and daily living as a result of injury, disease, or other causes. The Lymphedema Therapist may be a licensed Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist with lymphedema training and certification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.
  • Formal training and certification in Lymphedema Therapy required (CLT or equivalent).
  • Maintains current Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist license in the State of Florida (temporary permit acceptable).
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Lymphedema therapy experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings, family, and other relevant sources.
  • Develops and implements individualized treatment plans with specific goals and objectives, integrating care across the continuum.
  • Provides comprehensive lymphedema management, including manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging, exercise, skin care education, and self-management training.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of therapy-specific and lymphedema-related equipment while observing all safety precautions.
  • Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plans and goals as appropriate, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to treat and provide care appropriate to the age and condition of patients served.
  • Recognizes and communicates when a patient has received maximum therapeutic benefit.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding lymphedema management, home programs, and prevention of complications.
  • Ensures timely, complete documentation and accurate billing in accordance with departmental and organizational standards.
  • Adheres to the State Practice Act and Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy, as applicable.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains a positive and encouraging treatment environment that supports patient engagement and recovery.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives, program development, student supervision, safety, and infection control.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct, effective communication, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Practices efficient use of time, supplies, and equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, and required interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Instructs and supervises supportive personnel as appropriate.
