Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an A.O.T.A. accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
  • Master's degree from an A.O.T.A. accredited school of Occupational Therapy preferred.
  • Current and valid DC OT licensure or eligibility for state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Certified in lymphedema (CLT).
  • CPR Certified.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills the needs of patients, families and community by providing Occupational Therapy services in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements.
  • Responds effectively to new and changing work assignments.
  • Treats patients with general lymphedema conditions as well as lymphedema due to cancer.
  • Evaluates selected diagnoses accurately using basic techniques in acute care and rehabilitation.
  • Asks for clarification of orders from physicians and requests consult from other OTs as needed.
  • Considers all aspects of the patients' needs including the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans using appropriate problem-solving skills and clinical reasoning.
  • Documents evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes in a clear and concise manner, consistent with department policies and KOTA/AOTA.
  • Supervises Level 1 students independently and Level 2 students after one clinical experience, with assistance from the Student Coordinator as needed.
  • Meets all District of Columbia requirements for continuing education.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Follows all departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrates good rapport with patients and professionalism with other professionals, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
