The LVN Skilled Nursing Director of Staff Development (DSD) at Burnett Extended Care Center is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive training and education programs for specific levels of staff (e.g., CNAs, RNAs, LVNs) to ensure clinical competency, regulatory compliance, and high-quality resident care. The DSD collaborates with nursing and facility leadership to assess training needs, develop curriculums, and delivers both classroom and hands-on training sessions. This role supports orientation for new hires, conducts ongoing staff competency assessments, and assists with the implementation of policies and procedures to maintain standards of care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE), or Completion of a CHS-approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate
  • Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing School program OR become licensed by equivalency
  • 2 years of experience as a licensed nurse
  • 1 year of experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting
  • One of the following is required: 1 year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing
  • Possess 24 hours of continuing education certificate(s) in planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing. The courses must be either approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or be administered by an accredited educational institution, and the certificates must be obtained within six months of employment and prior to teaching in a training program
  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • LVN - Current State of California Licensed Vocational Nurse License
  • DSD - Certified Director of Staff Development required within 180 days of hire or transfer into position
