Website: https://heritageoakshospital.com/ The Mental Health Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) is a licensed professional who provides basic psychiatric nursing care, behavioral support, and milieu safety interventions under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The LVN/LPT contributes to patient care by collecting data, implementing therapeutic interventions, administering medications within scope, supporting crisis management, and maintaining a safe, structured, recovery‑oriented environment for patients experiencing acute or chronic psychiatric conditions.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited LVN or LPT program.
  • Current California LVN or LPT license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Completion of Handle with Care (HWC) training within 30 days of hire
  • Successful completion of medication administration and developmental competency exams
  • Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and acuity
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one (1) year psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and milieu management

Responsibilities

  • Collect and document objective data, including vital signs, observed behaviors, patient statements, and physical findings.
  • Report changes in patient condition promptly to the RN.
  • Participate in admission processes by completing LVN/LPT‑appropriate sections of intake documentation.
