About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) to provide nursing care at the Decatur location. This full-time role operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend, call, or holiday shifts. The position can be filled at levels 1, 2, or Senior based on the candidate's experience. The LPN/LVN will play a crucial role in supporting patient care and ensuring efficient patient flow in a community-focused oncology setting.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire for Level 1.
  • At least 3 years experience as a practical nurse for Level 2.
  • Minimum of five years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting for Level Sr.
  • Current CPR certification required for Level Sr.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients' condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information.
  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
