About The Position

The Medical Assistant III at Kaiser Permanente plays a crucial role in supporting practitioners and the clinical team in providing high-quality patient care. This position involves a variety of technical, clerical, receptionist, and patient care duties, all aimed at ensuring effective patient management under the indirect supervision of the clinic nursing supervisor. The Medical Assistant will assist with minor procedures, maintain patient comfort, and ensure a clean and safe environment for both patients and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a hospital or outpatient environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to perform clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs and assisting with procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills in English and another language.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding (ICD and CPT).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

  • Interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Obtain, identify, and record vital signs, medications, and other pertinent patient information.
  • Observe, record, and report patient symptoms and condition changes to the RN or practitioner.
  • Transcribe patient-specific data into electronic systems for billing and clinical reporting.
  • Anticipate provider needs during patient procedures and adjust to changes in assignments as directed.
  • Prepare rooms and instruments for exams or procedures and assist with patient care procedures.
  • Collect, label, and process specimens as required by the practitioner.
  • Review written instructions with patients regarding diagnostic tests and treatments.
  • Coordinate with nursing supervisors and other departments to maintain patient care standards.
  • Apply and remove dressings and assist with minor surgical procedures as delegated.
  • Document patient care interactions and activities according to clinic standards.
  • Ensure equipment is clean, safe, and operable, reporting any malfunctions as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff, following isolation and processing procedures for contaminated instruments.
  • Prepare clinical records for encounters and retrieve necessary documentation as requested.
  • Assist patients with non-clinical inquiries and refer clinical issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Manage appointment scheduling and coordinate practitioner schedules.
