About The Position

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting patient specimens from outside or within the Hospital in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for traveling to nursing homes and private residences to collect specimens from patients. Responsible for distributing specimens to appropriate area(s) within the laboratory. Responsible for general clerical duties. Responsible for trouble-shooting written and electronic orders in the outpatient lab. Responsible for performing Point-Of-Care testing in the outpatient setting and in limited hospital locations.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to accurately maintain sample and report identity using patient name and identification number through sample receipt, processing and reporting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintains strict confidentiality with regards to patient information.
  • Ability to effectively greet the public; work well with patients and Hospital employees; communicate effectively with all kinds of people.
  • Ability to follow directions and perform tasks outlined in procedure.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and take responsibility to maintain patient health and safety during specimen collection.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • WRITING - Basic: Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10#s and 100#s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to lift up to thirty-five (35) pounds.

  • Talk or hear - Continuously Over 2/3 (5.5 # 8 hours)
  • Up to 10 pounds - Continuously Over 2/3 (5.5 # 8 hours)
  • Up to 25 pounds - Frequently 1/3 to 2/3 (2.5 # 5.5 hours)
  • Up to 35 pounds - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours)

Nice To Haves

  • Graduated from accredited phlebotomy program.
  • Six (6) months phlebotomy experience.
  • Phlebotomy certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology or equivalent agency.
