Job Title: Lunch/Recess Monitor Location: Assigned School Job Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support Staff Pay Grade : Non-Union, Grade 12 Reports To: Principal Summary: Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks. Supervises activities and behaviors to ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Some knowledge of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training is helpful.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Knowledge of child development, appropriate and effective behavior change techniques, as well as direct experience in working with children is essential.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises students at lunchtime and recess breaks.
  • Circulates among students and assists them, helping to preserve order and safeguard school property.
  • Monitors the behavior of students and takes appropriate action to quell disruption and/or inappropriate behavior in accordance with school policies.
  • Enables students to maintain a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
  • Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.
  • Directs movement of groups to and from the playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.
  • Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to the Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.
  • Communicates with school personnel to ensure the safety of students during lunch and recess through collaborative supervision.
