This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As a GTAW Aluminum Welder Technician, you will perform high-precision TIG welding on aluminum aerospace components, meeting strict engineering and industry standards. This role demands expertise in joint preparation, weld quality inspection, and adherence to D17.1 Class A requirements. You’ll collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to deliver structurally sound, defect-free welds that meet first-pass acceptance. Requirements

  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical work instructions
  • Self-sufficient, self-starter and driven.
  • 10+ years of experience GTAW welding in an aerospace or precision manufacturing production environment.
  • Knowledge of Aluminum alloys and exotic metals
  • Must be able to author/Develop weld schedules that meet AWS D17.1 Class A inspections requirements.
  • Experience in using automated welding equipment.
  • Expert ability in GTAW aluminum AC/DC applications
  • Ability to fabricate using hand tools and precision measuring equipment on an expert level.
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with peers, engineering, and management at all levels.
  • Must have a good understanding of all types Non-Destructive testing and Quality policies applicable to Aerospace standards.
  • Must be able to pass a practical Weld Test (1F, 3F, 2G, 3G and 6G).
  • Ability to work A, B, C and D shift as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ Level II Technician
  • 5+ Level III Technician
  • 8+ SR Level Technician
  • Some technical coursework, trade school and/or AA technical degree/equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with mechanized welding technologies
  • Experience with GTAW AC and DC aluminum welding
  • Leadership experience.
  • Willingness to mentor less experienced technicians and welders.
  • Proficient experience with 5S methodology and lean initiatives
  • Current GTAW certifications in accordance with AWS D17.1.
  • Expert level of confidence in aerospace manufacturing specifications for structural and welded assemblies.
  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field
  • Maintain cleanroom or controlled environment standards as required for flight hardware integration
  • Knowledge of precision assembly processes and handling large aerospace components.
  • Strong technical and leadership skills with a keen attention to detail, essential for leading teams in complex integration tasks.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within teams to foster a positive work environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity for optimizing processes, driving innovation.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
  • Willingness to work overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Configure new production work areas with the necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and minimize any potential delays during the transition to high-rate manufacturing.
  • Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.) and precision calibrated tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, etc.) to maintain high safety and quality standards.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for safety and efficiency, enhancing overall productivity.
  • Drive the transition from development to production, proactively performing troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.
  • Tasks involve preparing and testing payload systems and hardware by applying materials, conducting painting, sealing, composite layup, repairs, testing, and assisting with vehicle assembly and installation.
