About The Position

Responsible for purchasing, pricing, and inventory management of assigned lumber and building materials categories. In this role, you will be a primary point of contact for suppliers and will require you to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships. Must be a proactive, supportive, and a consistent resource to internal operations and sales teams.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Purchasing and Inventory Control experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Work location is in person. Must be able to commute.
  • The ability to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry office supplies weighing 25 pounds or less. Finger dexterity is required to operate computer keyboard, calculator and telephone equipment.
  • Solid understanding of lumber and building material product categories (or willingness to learn quickly).
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence internal and external team members.
  • Proficient with ERP software. Epicor, Bistrack, WMS and others.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Google applications (Gmail, Shared Drive, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and data driven. Ability to use data to guide business decisions.
  • Self-starter with ability to draw conclusions and find solutions.
  • Consistently demonstrates a professional and positive demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage all assigned inventory.
  • Determine and maintain appropriate inventory levels to support sales while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Conduct regular line reviews and make recommendations to fit current sales needs.
  • Develop annual goals for sales, profit, and stock turns within assigned categories.
  • Provide regular cost analysis and reporting to support sales teams.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing changes, and supply conditions to inform buying decisions.
  • Develop a buy strategy to optimize turns and savings using your strong product and market knowledge within assigned product groups.
  • Ensure that system pricing and databases are current and up to date.
  • Review and maintain accuracy of purchase orders and supplier confirmations.
  • Provide consistent and friendly contact with suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, freight, programs and others with suppliers to achieve profitability goals.
  • Ensure timely communication with suppliers regarding orders, delivery schedules, and product availability.
  • Become a key partner with Sales teams to identify opportunities, share market insights, and support customer needs.
  • Support Sales teams in the sales bidding process by providing the best available pricing data.
  • Regularly share information and strive to strengthen overall collaboration across teams.
  • Participate on special projects (as assigned or self-perpetuated). Set objectives, determine action plans, and set target completion dates.
