About The Position

Join Chevron Lubricants as a Lubricant Formulator, where you will be responsible for creating and maintaining engine oil lubricants that meet or exceed the latest performance standards. This position is part of a global team, supporting Chevron’s lubricants business in all regions, taking a lead role for Passenger Car Motor Oils (PCMOs). The Lubricants Formulator also works in the industry to understand and shape emerging requirements, to ensure that Chevron is well-positioned for the future.

Requirements

  • B.S. in technical field (Science, Engineering)
  • 3-5 years in finished lubricants, lubricant additives, lubricant blending, or related technical field

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 5-15 years experience in finished lubricants, lubricant additives and/or lubricant blending strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • The Lubricant Formulator will work with additive company partners to develop and optimize engine oil formulations to meet performance, regulatory, and cost targets.
  • This position will take a lead role for passenger car motor oils, and at times may support other related categories including heavy duty diesel engine oils and motorcycle oils.
  • The Formulator has good understanding of the engine lubrication requirements, and the challenges that determine performance of the lubricant, such as wear and deposit control, viscosity control, and fuel economy.
  • The formulator is aware of applications in various regional markets, product tiers, and viscosity grades, and advises on how to differentiate products in the market.
  • The formulator is familiar with the preferred additives, viscosity modifiers, and base oils used in PCMOs, with how these components impact the performance of the lubricant, and with the bench and engine testing protocols used for development, and for industry and OEM approval processes.
  • Manages technical projects from planning through implementation, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, organization and project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects is essential.
  • Collaborates with product line managers, technical teams, manufacturing, and external partners.
  • Understands Product Lifecycle Management processes and tool used in the development process.
  • Formulators may be nominated to represent Chevron's interests in industry forums such as ASTM and API.
