The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a world-renowned research and education hub at the forefront of natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction. Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms. LTI is seeking interns to work under the mentorship of Carnegie Mellon University faculty to master fundamental research methodologies within the Language Technology Institute. Interns will be working on a research project for the duration of the internship. As part of this, they will learn standard research activities, such as analyzing large-scale language and speech datasets, learning to train or evaluate state-of-the-art language technology (LT) models, performing user-centric analyses to ensure these technologies are inclusive and effective, and developing the skills to draft formal research papers. Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong technical, communication, and analysis skills.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes/researches data
  • Prepares reports and other dissemination and outreach materials
  • Attends meetings and participates in various seminars/training classes as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
