About The Position

Chemical Engineering Intern The Global Security Directorate is seeking a talented and enthusiastic intern for 10-week, summer 2026 to contribute towards key projects supporting the Department of Energy’s national security mission. The ideal candidate will be working toward a bachelor’s degree with a focus in chemical engineering or a closely related field.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a closely related field
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute to a team of engineers, technicians, metallurgists, project managers, and other support staff
  • Highly effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong initiative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • 1 or more years of university education
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • 3.0 GPA

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or coursework in fluid mechanics and gas dynamics

Responsibilities

  • Provide chemical engineering support to mobile nuclear facilities, to include designing and optimizing systems and components
  • Provide troubleshooting and hands on installation
  • Produce and present written and oral reports and presentations as required
  • May interface with SRNL leadership, federal oversight resources, and other DOE complex sites
  • Ensure all activities adhere to SRNL safety, quality, records, and training programs
  • Some travel may be required
  • Support project managers in ensuring compliance with project standards, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate project activities and resources, including tasks, schedules, deliverables
