About The Position

This position is located at UAMS Fayetteville Family Medical Center. The LPN provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care to a select group of patients. The LPN practices within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas, the National Association for Practical Nurse Education Services, Inc. Code of Ethics, and hospital policies and procedures and adheres to department and unit standards of care. The duties of the LPN contributes in the effort to further the mission of UAMS: To improve the health and health care of Arkansans.

Requirements

  • High School, GED, or formal educational equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Associates Degree in Nursing.
  • One (1) year of work experience in clinical nursing
  • Current Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurse license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Strong clinical knowledge and technique.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology required
  • Strong patient advocacy and patient education skills.
  • Attention to communication, oral, written, and persuasive.
  • Must be able to build collaborative relationships.
  • Possess personal credibility.
  • Ability to make independent judgments that have highly significant impacts on the organization.
  • Ability to provide motivational support to the area of responsibility.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Professional and courteous telephone etiquette.
  • General knowledge of office machines, including printers, fax machines, and scanners.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of work experience in a clinical environment with direct patient care.
  • Good working knowledge of the state immunization registry, care manager.
  • PCMH experience and care management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas, UAMS policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Accountable for adhering to UAMS care guidelines.
  • Observe patients, charting, and reporting changes in patients’ conditions.
  • Provide basic care and treatment of patients.
  • Administer prescribed medications and start intravenous fluids.
  • Measure and record the patient’s vital signs.
  • Assist patients in standing, walking, bathing, dressing, and moving in bed.
  • Supervise nurses’ aides and assistants.
  • Answer the patient’s call and determine how to assist them.
  • Collect samples such as blood, urine, and sputum from patients and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Clean rooms and make beds.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies and instruments.
  • Record food and fluid intake and output.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
