About The Position

Oak Plains Academy is a comprehensive and highly structured 98-bed residential treatment program offering psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. Residents receive an individualized treatment plan, geared to meet their personal needs. A professional team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, nurses, and teachers serve hundreds of children and adolescents annually with the common goal of treating and healing trauma and building resiliency in the residents we serve. Located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, Oak Plains Academy campus features a full-size gymnasium, dining hall, separate academic building, and four dormitories. Our wooded campus provides an excellent opportunity for outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, softball and basketball. Requirements

  • Current license to practice nursing in Tennessee.
  • Current BLS certification (upon hire and kept current)
  • MUST COMPLETE TWO WEEKS OF ORIENTATION CLASSES, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 8:00 AM TO 4:30 PM

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with children/adoloescents
  • Preferred experience working in a psychiatric residential setting.

Responsibilities

  • The LPN/LVN serves as a primary staff member performing routine health maintenance, medication administration, medical record documentation, and assists physicians and any other health care person all in the therapeutic milieu.
  • Serves as a role model to staff and students in dress and demeanor.
  • Performs proper HWC techniques, demonstrating knowledge of patient and staff safety. Completes debriefings as indicated.
  • Renders professional nursing care to patients within the treatment programs.
  • Practices ongoing patient assessment, evaluation and update of patient care through observation of physical and behavioral symptoms and communicates pertinent data to other service areas as needed.
  • Administers medications appropriately and documents all data accurately according to facility policy.
  • Participates in formulation of individual care plans for all patients and implements plan according to facility policy.
