About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a specifically trained member of the inpatient care team. The LPN supports the ongoing delivery of care and is an integral team member in the care for patients and families. The LPN works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager (CSM) and indirectly under the direction of the RN. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program by the date of hire
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse License in the State of Arkansas by the date of hire.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to accept and follow written and verbal instructions, and ability to communicate following Guest Care guidelines.
  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical nursing experience.
  • CPR certification (BCLS) completed during the probationary period

Responsibilities

  • Delivers nursing care according to the standard of care defined by UAMS with support and mentoring by RN
  • Provides effective patient/family education under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Administers medication per standard, including providing medication education to patients and families.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients; may include interviewing patients and obtaining medical history.
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed
  • Monitors patient care supplies ordered and received; reports any discrepancy
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment judiciously
  • Assists Patients with ADL/Personal Care; Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures; Applies and monitors restraints; Assists patients with activities (ambulation, in a chair, turn and repositioning)
  • Provides appropriate Genitourinary care (Foley catheter care, sitz bath, vaginal douche)
  • Provides appropriate Gastrointestinal Care by assisting in feeding of patient meals, snacks, tube feeding/position and securing nasogastric tubes, fecal impaction removal, enema administration, ostomy care, and irrigation.
  • Accurately records GI/O, intake of meals/snacks, and 24-hour calorie intake.
  • Collects specimens (stool and emesis) per standards
  • Provides appropriate Respiratory Care by performing per standards: oral suctioning, established trach care, and oral and skin care.
  • Sets up oxygen and provides oral and skin care for patients on oxygen per standards
  • Provides appropriate Vascular Care: Measures and applies anti-embolic stockings, removes peripheral IV, Phlebotomy, Provides appropriate Skin Care: Surgical preps, removes peripheral IV/saline lock as directed by RN, performs per standards: phlebotomy, CVL dressing changes
  • Provides appropriate Musculoskeletal Care: Assists per standards: ROM exercises, crutches/walkers, orthopedic pin care, applies as ordered, splints, slings, ace wraps, hot/cold packs
  • Obtains and records vital signs/pulse oximetry as requested by RN and reports abnormal values to RN: performs non-invasive monitoring (EKG, EEG, Doppler, fetal heart tones) per standards: Monitors for arrhythmias (ICU areas only) and reports to appropriate RN per standards
  • Documents patients care per standards: Documents vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O’s accurately and timely and per unit and department standards; Documents all patient care activities/tasks accurately and timely per standards.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Professional Nursing/Professional/Development/Professional Growth.
  • Participates in continuing education by completing the required staff development hours annually and in profession/institutional advancement of self and co-workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
