About The Position

The overall purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse position is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to residents following the established policies and procedures of Ridgecrest Village. He/she will assist in the care and management of the nursing unit and resident care areas. The Licensed Practical Nurse will supervise and assist nurse aides to ensure that all resident care meets the high standards of Ridgecrest Village.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice in Iowa.
  • Must possess the Nurse Supervisor accreditation to work in Iowa.
  • Must possess patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.
  • Must possess the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position.
  • Ability to concentrate on details with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to understand and relate specific ideas and concepts.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skill, and empathy necessary to work with geriatric residents and their families.
  • Flexibility and innovative thinking focused on total quality improvements.

  • Must be able to push a wheelchair; occasionally lift over twenty-five lbs.
  • Must be able to see objects up close to perform minimal office tasks.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish normal sounds with background noise ranging from conversational levels to high pitch sounding alarms, while using phones, radios, etc.
  • Able to smell smoke or chemicals.
  • All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees, and the facility. This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers professional nursing care to residents.
  • Ensures that all medications and narcotics are properly maintained.
  • Counts locked medications and narcotics at beginning and end of each shift and maintains daily inventory.
  • Always carries medication keys.
  • Administers and charts medication delivery according to Ridgecrest Village policy and procedure.
  • Ensures that medications are ordered from pharmacy as necessary.
  • Ensures that all discontinued medication is destroyed according to Ridgecrest Village policy and procedure.
  • Assigns and supervises work tasks of nurse’s aides according to resident care needs.
  • Makes routine rounds to ensure that each resident receives adequate attention to his/her personal needs.
  • Recommends changes in care to aides as necessary.
  • Assists aides at supervisor’s request.
  • Serves as a resource person for nursing aides.
  • Charts all pertinent information and completes necessary paperwork according to Ridgecrest Village policy and procedures.
  • Completes written nursing assessment of resident upon admission.
  • Charts complete information on specific nursing care delivered.
  • Completes routine charting of resident’s condition and nursing care delivered.
  • Identifies, reviews and revises information for resident care plans including resident problems, intervention steps, resident goals and progress towards those goals.
  • Writes weekly nursing summary on each resident and quarterly total assessments.
  • Completes paperwork relating to admission, transfer, or discharge of resident.
  • Fills out incident reports as necessary, charts complete information regarding incident and reports information to supervisor.
  • Completes any other forms or paperwork at supervisor’s request.
  • Assists supervisors in managing and maintaining safe, clean, efficient nursing units and resident care units.
  • Prepares equipment for disinfecting and ensures that equipment is disinfected as needed.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies are kept on unit.
  • Reports need for additional supplies or equipment to Directing of Nursing.
  • Ensures that oxygen tanks are ordered and running appropriately.
  • Assists in keeping nurses’ station, medication room and utility rooms clean.
  • Reports discrepancies on all orders, care, diets, etc. to Director of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates competency in skills mandated by required education and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
