About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical doctor, provides health services and school based community health referrals at and from a school site. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed. Administers first aid and health treatments. Administers medicines in accordance with Arizona Law and as directed by District policy. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical doctor, supports school sites and provides advice and consultation to Health Techs on district policy, regulations, and best practices for student issues. Maintains health records on students, logs and appointment schedules. Reviews student health records for proper immunization documentation and emergency information Carries out preventive health service programs per applicable laws, health department recommendation, and school district policies Serves as liaison with health care and social service providers for students and families. Provides education to students and parents on wellness, illness and injury. Collects lists of needed Health Office supplies from school sites; submits supply requests to Director of Student Services; maintains Health Office supplies, equipment and medical records on site. Maintains immunization records and vision and hearing screening results. Participates on IEP and Crisis teams. May act as Child Abuse Coordinator. May make student home visits. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Principles and practices of school based health care, equipment and supplies.
  • Community health care and social service agencies.
  • State Health and immunization laws including mandated records and reports.
  • Medical treatment standards and terminology.
  • Ability to: Provide technical leadership in school site based health care.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Operate health care equipment.
  • Make health care and social needs referrals into the community.
  • Operate a computer and related software.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations
  • Nursing license.
  • CPR/First Aid certificate.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year experience working in health care with children preferred.
