About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor functions under the direction of the Director of Nursing. They are responsible for on-shift coordination of care and treatment for our students in maintaining their health and wellbeing by ensuring that physicians' orders, plans of care and appropriate policies, procedures and protocols are carried out by the nursing staff on-duty. The Nursing supervisor assesses students' medical status routinely and as needed and directly supervises LPN's, CNA's, and MA's providing medical care to students of Crystal Springs in the absence of the Director of Nursing. The Nursing Supervisor must at all times maintain a professional demeanor and have the ability to multi-task. The Nursing Supervisor helps ensure that all eligible UAP's are trained and competent with the various delegated nursing tasks. QUALIFICATIONS : Licensed Practical Nurse Nurse currently licensed in the State of Massachusetts in good standing

  • Ability to perform nursing medical assessments, effectively triage day-to-day emergencies, phone calls and/or other medically related situations that may arise
  • Ability to review, analyze and make recommendations on relevant incident reports
  • Ability to effectively review and interpret lab, x-ray and other evaluation reports and consults
  • Ability to effectively communicate with in-house physicians, outside specialists, funding agencies and parents/guardians as needed

  • Knowledge of common functional email and word processing computer skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, set goals and follow through on tasks as well as motivating staff and fostering opportunities for teamwork.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedure for reporting suspected child abuse & neglect.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in spoken and written English; and to read and comprehend work related documents which are almost exclusively written in English.
  • Ability to utilize various electronic software for communication, tracking, and documentation.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license for more than one year and be ready, willing and able to drive the Company's wheelchair and/or mini-vans safely according to Massachusetts driving laws;
  • Each staff member must participate in a minimum of two hours per month in-service training to maintain compliance with state regulations (EEC and DESE) and to further develop the skills necessary for continued employment and advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing with oversight and management functions of the Nursing department.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of the Medical Services building staff as well as any students being treated or housed in the building in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Perform and assist other nurses with medication and treatment administration tasks
  • Consistently model Nursing Department expectations and exercise management responsibilities in such a way as to reinforce the philosophy of care, regulations, program policies and procedures including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices.
  • Implement both agency and individualized student support practices utilizing appropriate techniques to monitor, assess and document medically related situations and client status.
  • Develop and maintain positive and collaborative communications/relations with other supervisory and direct care staff, clients, families, state agency personnel, and other collaborative resources.
  • Review documentation by department staff to ensure quality and compliance with agency and state regulations and in accordance with best nursing practices.
  • Responsible for completion of student progress notes, admission treatment plans/IHCPs and other necessary documentation as assigned
  • Function as a trainer to Crystal Springs employees (nursing and non-nursing staff) on departmentally relevant topics as needed during orientation and regarding on-going staff development processes
  • Function as a support and resource to the Director of Nursing and staff
  • Assist in ensuring that students' physical, dental, audiology, ophthalmology exams and lab work are up-todate
  • Maintain phone and email availability during standard business hours to attend to varying needs of the client, staff administration and other stakeholders.
  • Assist the Medical Director or other consulting specialists on-site or via telephone and email as needed.
  • Represent the nursing department at quarterly and IEP meetings, intake & discharge meetings as well as contingency and transition meetings as requested by the DON
  • Attend appointments/off-grounds trips with students as needed
  • Assist with nursing schedule and payroll as/if assigned
  • Conduct 1:1 supervision with Nursing department staff as assigned
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Understand and professionally represent the obligations, functions, programs, and services of the agency and their relation to staff, students and the community.
  • Abide by mandates regarding confidentiality and ethics as per federal, state and agency and policy procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
  • Foster a safe and respectful environment for learning, dialogue and disagreement among supervisors, colleagues, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
