About The Position

The Resource Nurse plays a key role in supporting and collaborating with RN School Nurses district-wide. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive nursing team within the school environment. Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact compassionately and professionally with students, families, and staff, are essential. We are looking for a highly skilled individual with excellent nursing, organizational, and communication abilities, sound judgment, and a strong sense of reliability. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in pediatrics, community health, or another relevant clinical nursing setting
  • CPR Certified
  • Driver’s License and own transportation required for district-wide nursing responsibilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
  • Current LPN licensure to practice nursing in Massachusetts
  • Current CPR/AED

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with School Personnel to maintain a healthful school environment
  • Assists with state-mandated programs such as screening programs
  • Maintains up-to-date school records
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to administer medications and treatments as ordered and in keeping with school policy on the administration of medication and special procedures in school.
  • Provides medically prescribed interventions, including caring for ill or injured children
  • Supports or covers nursing services for the SHINE program students.
  • Maintains accurate electronic SNAP records of medications/treatments/procedures administered to student(s).
  • Electronically documents health-related activities and treatments daily as appropriate.
  • Maintains medical equipment and supplies to ensure proper functioning, storage, and availability for the intended use.
  • Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel, students, and families.
  • Uses community resources to refer students with unmet health needs, including the need for a primary care provider.
  • Other duties as assigned
