About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The role involves demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise. The LPN is responsible for ensuring the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributing to assessments, administering medications or treatments as ordered, and documenting resident interactions and outcomes related to care. The position requires effective communication and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary care team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board approved AASPN program or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required.
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or have a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting.
  • Practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards.
  • Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and provides necessary care.
  • Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively in emergent situations.
  • Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents.
  • Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered.
  • Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsels residents and family members on prevention and treatment plans under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Develops self-care programs based on resident education principles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
