About The Position

Monitors/Supervises direct care staff (C.N.A.) in performance of health related duties. Educates and/or counsels as needed. Holds staff meetings and gives in-services as required. Consult with Nursing Supervisor/Unit Managers on issues when necessary. Daily rounds of high risk residents or residents with wounds for brief changes per facility policy and turning & repositioning per standards. Acts as Unit Manager when needed. May be required to cover Assisted Living Unit or any Nursing Unit. Observe and evaluate the physical and emotional status of all residents and take necessary action. Assess residents for physician and specialist needs. Consults with physicians, receives, records and implements orders as required or schedules appointments as directed. Makes rounds with physicians when necessary. Monitors unit for cleanliness and ensures equipment not in use is stored properly. Completes all required documentation associated with the position. To include but not limited to Incident/accident reports, charting, referrals, assessment, admissions, reports to on-coming staff, chart medication/treatments in resident's electronic record. Document resident behaviors and/or other monitored requirements. Document resident health changes via acute care nurse's notes and shift change nursing report sheet. Verifies medications from pharmacy for accuracy and notifies pharmacy of errors. Prepare and administer medication and treatments according to procedure. Responsible for medications and equipment on the unit and maintains a neat and orderly work area. Monitor supplies of necessary materials for nursing care and informs Central Supply or Nursing Supervisors of needs. Monitors medication refrigerator's ensuring all medications have current order and are in date. Assist with in-house activities as nursing schedule permits. Informs staff when ill residents cannot participate in activities and when they can resume activities. Coordinates with activity staff as needed. Assures that proper safety measures for residents and personnel are followed. Sees that residents are clean and well groomed; report problems to Unit Manager or Nursing Supervisor. Monitors the cleanliness and working order of resident items such as false or partial teeth, glasses and hearing aides. Report needed repairs to appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a Practical Nursing program and obtained certification.
