The St. Cloud Hospital Emergency Trauma Center is the region's most comprehensive facility, receiving 60,000 visits per year. Staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and specially trained nurses, the center is a designated Level II Trauma Center with 38 private patient rooms, including those for children, trauma victims, and psychiatric patients. The center provides surgical services for trauma, neurosurgical, oral/maxillofacial, orthopedic, and plastics concerns, and has one of the busiest stroke programs in Minnesota. The ETC Technician, either an LPN or Paramedic, participates in the continuous observation and assessment of patient needs while reporting to the Medical Provider and/or RN. The technician utilizes standard and individualized plans of care, serving as the primary care provider for a portion of the patient population. Duties include starting adult and pediatric IVs, setting up critical care equipment, and performing documentation during Trauma Code activation. The technician will also carry out delegated functions during the care of critically ill/injured patients, such as applying automatic chest compression devices, pelvic wraps, cervical collars, and warming devices.
