About The Position

The LPN On Campus Nursing position involves providing comprehensive nursing care and intervention under the direction of a registered nurse to ensure that the health care needs of individuals receiving services are met. The role includes assisting individuals in their day-to-day activities, providing instruction and assistance as necessary.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved practical nursing program.
  • Current NYS LPN license.
  • Two (2) years' experience working with individuals with Developmental Disabilities preferred.
  • Awareness of current trends in nursing and nursing care with individuals with physical and mental challenges preferred.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Access to reliable transportation as local travel may be required.
  • Meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles as required.
  • Be able to perform all physical interventions.
  • Swim in the Springbrook and community pools as necessary.
  • Employ appropriate conflict resolution strategies during interactions with colleagues and students.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes all of the responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional.
  • Responsible for passing medications.
  • Reports to program RN for all medical issues and guidance.
  • Provides comprehensive nursing care, including detection of signs of illness or dysfunction.
  • Provides routine and emergency nursing intervention as needed/assigned by RN.
  • Enacts PRN and standing orders as approved by a physician.
  • Able to act calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Documents pertinent care according to Springbrook Policies & Procedures.
  • Observes, records and reports symptoms, side effects, reactions, progress, and the effects of medications to the RN.
  • Schedules medical appointments for residents and attends these as necessary.
  • Performs routine medication room checks to ensure all needed supplies and prescriptions are up to date.
  • Proficient with the Dr. First website for procuring prescriptions.
  • Proficient with Precision Care for documenting medication histories and other pertinent information.
  • Supports the philosophy, goals and policies of the facility to clients, families, allied personnel and the community.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of Springbrook, attending required in-service trainings.
  • Follows all written behavior plans & goals, ensuring that all residents' rights are honored.
  • Utilizes constructive suggestions and directives from RN's and administrators.
  • Arrives promptly for shift and attends to duties/responsibilities while on the job.
  • Participates in the team approach and functions satisfactorily with all staff members.
  • Serves as a good role model for the participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be able to work overtime hours when necessary.
