About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care and providing information to patients to maximize clinic service utilization. Clinical duties include monitoring patient flow, obtaining and documenting vitals, current medications, and chief complaints, performing technical laboratory functions such as phlebotomy, EKG, and stress testing, monitoring/tracking/charging medical equipment, and scheduling procedures and tests. Office duties involve greeting patients, vendors, and visitors, operating the switchboard, obtaining and verifying insurance information, securing pre-certifications or prior authorizations, maintaining accurate billing records, and managing patient accounts receivable. The role is primarily assigned to a specific practice/urgent care but requires flexibility to cover other practice sites.

Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Medical Assistant certification required
  • Current CPR certification
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills
  • Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, co-workers and the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with medical and administrative staff, patients, co-workers and insurance companies
  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, and decision making
  • Skill in analysis and interpretation of data, and preparation of reports
  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques, appropriate use of universal precautions, appropriate charting of patient data
  • Skill in point of care testing, vital signs, EKG, and other clinical aspects of the office
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license
  • Insurable under Firelands auto policy
  • Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request

Responsibilities

  • Assisting physicians with patient care
  • Providing information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinic services
  • Monitoring patient flow
  • Obtaining and documenting patient vitals
  • Documenting current medications
  • Documenting chief complaint
  • Performing technical laboratory functions including phlebotomy/EKG/stress testing
  • Monitoring/tracking/charging medical equipment
  • Scheduling procedures and tests
  • Greeting patients, vendors, and other visitors and notifying appropriate staff of their arrival
  • Operating switchboard or telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls
  • Obtaining current and accurate insurance information each visit
  • Verifying coverage through insurance company
  • Obtaining pre-certifications or prior authorizations as needed
  • Maintaining daily accurate records for timely billing of accounts
  • Notifying patients of account status and payments due using collection techniques to assist in keeping accounts receivable current
  • Assisting in covering other practice sites when assigned to a specific practice/urgent care
  • Performing as a Medical Scribe from time-to-time
  • Preparing and presenting reports to FPG management as requested
