About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The position is based at The Good Samaritan Society in Holstein, IA, a small facility with a big heart, where staff is compassionate and dedicated to the residents. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge. The role includes performing testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status, ensuring the health, comfort, and safety of residents, and contributing to the assessment of residents.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board approved AASPN program or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required.
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or have a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge.
  • Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and provides the necessary care.
  • Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in emergent situations.
  • Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents.
  • Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered.
  • Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsels residents and family members on prevention and treatment plans.
  • Develops self-care programs based on resident education principles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
