The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, working under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role requires demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles, competency within the full scope of nursing expertise, and the ability to apply age and population-specific standards for resident care. The LPN will perform testing to evaluate resident status, provide necessary care, recognize problems, and respond effectively to emergent situations. Key responsibilities include ensuring resident health, comfort, and safety, contributing to assessments, administering medications and treatments, providing technical support to healthcare professionals, and documenting resident interactions and outcomes. The LPN must be skilled in establishing effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public, and be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary care team. Communication skills and confidentiality are essential. The LPN will also counsel residents, family members, and advocates on prevention and treatment plans under direction, and apply resident education principles to develop self-care programs.
