About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role involves demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles, competency within the full scope of nursing expertise, and utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan. The LPN will perform testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed. They must be able to recognize problems, recommend solutions, and respond effectively to assist in emergent situations. The position ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributes to their assessment, and administers medications or treatments as ordered. Technical support to healthcare professionals is also a part of the role. Documentation of resident interactions and outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary is required. The LPN is expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public, working effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. Clear communication and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information are essential. Furthermore, the LPN will counsel residents, family members, and/or resident advocates, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician, on prevention and treatment plans, and apply knowledge of resident education principles to develop self-care programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
  • Specific services/positions may have additional education, training or experience requirements.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.

  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
