About The Position

General Description: Under general supervision of a registered nurse, provides nursing care in a hospital based outpatient department to an assigned group of patients with a complex oncology diagnosis.

Requirements

Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
Completes Oncology Specific courses and competencies within 1 year of hire
Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC) required.
Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Oncology or previous health care office experience preferred

Responsibilities

Administers medications safely under direction of physician or other medical personnel
Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation
Ensures patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner and forwarding charts as appropriate
Communicates systematic report to other care providers.
Assisting in the coordination of care delivery; utilizes resources to promote the continuum of care.
Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
Documents progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
Uses quality and evidence based practice to deliver and improve care.
Works closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
Triage telephone calls for referral to other clinical team members
Infusion/Treatment Depts: demonstrates knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products.
Radiation Oncology Depts: demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom management.
Demonstrates ability to triage patients and coordinate with provider to ensure care needs are met
Demonstrates knowledge and skill in aspects of IV therapy and hydration
Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.
