The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This position demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board approved AASPN program or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required.
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge.
  • Utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.
  • Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and provides the care needed.
  • Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation.
  • Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered.
  • Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public.
  • Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsels residents, family members, and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans.
  • Develops a self-care program based on resident education principles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
