The Certified-Registered Medical Assistant (MA) provides professional care through the application of clinical skills and processes to assigned patients. This role will also assist patients, clinic staff or other clinical staff to schedule, pre-register register for all services at Adena Health System. This position may be responsible to enter diagnosis, tests and check orders for completeness and medical necessity. This individual provides direct care and works collaboratively with other members of the care team to achieve optimal patient care. This incumbent has access to confidential patient information, provides direct patient care, and if functioning clinically will do so under the direct supervision of the nurse practitioner and/or physician. The MA/PAR use established interviewing techniques to gather information in person, by accessing hospital or clinic EMR or by phone. Information gathered includes demographic information, insurance, financial, ensuring correct precertification/authorization and other information from patients or their representatives required for billing and collecting patient accounts. This position uses various electronic tools to ensure the patient's insurance coverage is active. This position will be required to run an estimate on each patient at each visit or over the phone when pre-registering. Required signatures and documents are obtained by this position at the time of registration and scanned into document imaging. This position may interact with clinicians in the ER and both outpatient and clinic settings to ensure patient care is delivered in a timely manner. The Patient Access Representative on occasion may be required to answer all incoming calls and transfer as appropriate if needed. Must successfully maintain competency level of PAR II role. Under the direct supervision of the licensed independent practitioner and/or physician, the medical assistant/Patient Access Representative performing phlebotomy tasks assumes the responsibility for performing venipuncture and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and department. This position does not have access to funds. This incumbent also reports to the School-Based Health program manager or designee. The Medical Assistant/Patient Access Representative must be self-driven and able to multi-task and prioritize their work. They must have strong communication skills and be able to deal effectively with others with a strong emphasis on customer service. This position is team oriented and contributes to achieving department goals.
